The F-14 Tomcat is the best fighter that has ever been built. No other
fighter ever built, not Eagle, not Falcon, not Fulcrum, not Flanker, can
even one day compare to the Mighty F-14. It has a vast array of lethal
weapons. One of these weapons is the AIM-54C Phonenix missile. This is
a missile designed by Hughes. It's main attraction is that the Tomcat can
fire it from 100 miles away & hit an incoming bomber. The missile was
primarily designed to intercept the TU-95 Bear, which was a long-range,
nuclear bomber that was built by the god-damned Russians. Another weapon
that is posessed by the Mighty Cat is the AIM-9 Sidewinder missile. The
Sidewinder is a short range(3-5 miles)infra-red missile that is used for
a true dogfighter, which the Mighty Cat has proven itself to be. Another
weapon that the Mighty Cat boasts of is the AIM-7 Sparrow. The Sparrow
missile is a missile that is usually regarded by pilots as somewhat a piece
of crap. During the Vietnam war when the Sparrow was introduced on the
F-4 PHANTOM (another kickass navy plane) it hit ratio was something like
1/10. Meaning that of every 10 Sparrow's fired, only one hit it's target.
One pilot, a naval ace, Randall Cunningham, was known as FOX-2, which is a
call-sign for the sparrow. Cunningham was describing a dogfight, & he kept
on saying that he just fired another Sparrow. Now-a-days, the new Sparrow,
the AIM-7M, is a greatly improved missile, that can be favorably compared
to the newer AIM-120 AMRAAM(advanced medium rang air to air missile). The Mighty Cat does posess the AIM-120, but the Sparrow is still it's primary BVR weapon.
Back in 1989, when 2 F-14A's were sent on an
interception mission, to destroy 2 Mig-23 Floggers that were sent up by that
son of a bitch Kadaffi(if you know the correct spelling of his name, please
tell). The Mig's came within 20 miles of the Tomcat, before the 1st one
fired a Sparrow. That missile missed, & another was shot. That hit, &
downed one. The other was intercepted by the other Cat, who used a
Sidewinder to polish off the other Mig.
The Mighty Cat also has been
introduced to the role of Air-to-Ground which has further increased it's
spectacular capabilities. The F-14D Super Tomcat is going to be equipped
with the LATNRIN pod, for low altitude targeting & navigation. This pod,
in series with the new JDAM bombs(joint-direct-attack-munitions)will give
the Might Cat an air-to-ground capability that could only be surpassed by
the CRAPPY F-15E Strike Eagle. Even though the "D" model is equipped with
bombs, it's dogfighting capability will be increased, since it is being
equipped with stronger engines that are more economical, meaning that it
will be the plane to beat well into the 21st century. The Cat's capabilities
now surpass anything that the F/A-18 has ever offered. Especially since the
new F-/A-18 E/F model is being posponed another year or two because of its
wingdip problem, which is now starting to appear in earlier versions. All
in all, the Tomcat is the best fighter/bomber that has ever been produced.
Plus, it was produced by Grumman Aerospace, which has had an irrefutable
record of producing strong, sturdy, & reliable aircraft.
